At least 14 buses caught fire at around 8.50 pm Monday at a parking space in the capital’s Demra area.

Five firefighting units brought the situation under control after an hour at 9.48 pm.

Md Anwarul Islam, a media section official of the fire service, confirmed the matter.

It was not yet clear whether some miscreants had set the fire to the buses, or it started accidentally on a bus and later spread to nearby vehicles.

All the buses belong to the "London Express", a public transport company.

There was no report of human casualties as yet.
