Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman on Sunday said the supply of 1.30 crore sacrificial animals would be ensured during Eid-ul-Azha this year.
There is a sufficient stock of cattle in the country and the government has no plan to import cattle, he told reporters at a press conference at the secretariat in Dhaka.
“There were 1.25 crore sacrificial animals last year and of those 19 lakh remained unsold,” he said.
Meanwhile, the government has made preparations to ensure that the prices of sacrificial animals do not go up due to intermediaries and subsequently the livestock market does not become unstable, the minister said.
He added that inter-ministerial meetings would also be held ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to address the issue of extortion during the transportation of sacrificial animals from different parts of the country.
