The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has frozen the bank accounts of Shuchona Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The BFIU, in a letter, asked the banks to suspend transactions of accounts operated in the foundation’s name for 30 days under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
Banks have also been directed to send account-related information or documents, such as account opening forms, KYC, and transaction statements, to the anti-money laundering agency.
Established in 2014, Shuchona Foundation works to help people with mental disability, neurological disability, autism, and mental health issues.
Putul, Muzharul Mannan and Zain Bari Rizvi are three of the trustees of the foundation.
