Top US businessman Gentry Beach today (30 January) called on Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and expressed his desire to invest in Bangladesh.

Beach, who is the CEO and founder of Highground Holdings, said his company has already acquired multiple assets in Bangladesh and would like to invest more in the country's energy, finance and a number of other sectors, according to CA Press Wing.

"You've done a great job," Beach told the chief adviser, adding that the law and order situation has improved and stability has returned.

"It is time for more investment to come to this country. We are excited to be here," Beach, who is also the chairman of Paramount USA, told Yunus.

"We will make Bangladesh great again," he said.

Yunus welcomed Beach for making an investment at "a critical time" in the country. He said the Interim Government was carrying out reforms to attract more foreign direct investment in Bangladesh.

"The country is ready for business. The business conditions are now right. We are beginning a new chapter in our history," the chief adviser said.

Yunus said Bangladesh needs more US investments in many sectors including gas explorations in onshore and offshore fields.

Special Envoy to Chief Adviser Lutfey Siddiqi Bangladesh Investment Development Authorities chairman, Ashik Chowdhury, and senior secretary to SDG affairs, Lamiya Morshed, were also present on the occasion.

Earlier in the day, Gentry Beach, has expressed interest in investing in mineral and gas exploration in Bangladesh.

He said that his company also interested in investing in real estate, especially in low-cost social housing, aerospace and defence sectors.

He conveyed his interest during a meeting with political leaders, an adviser to the interim government and senior officials of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday.

Beach, the family business partner of US President Donald Trump, is on a one-day visit to Bangladesh. As part of the visit, he attended a luncheon at BIDA. Advisers to the interim government and political leaders also participated in it.

Beach said that he had come to Bangladesh to propose investments in various sectors.

"I have come to Bangladesh to make some proposals for investment. We want to invest in the development sector. Along with this, peace and prosperity will also be discussed. With Donald Trump coming to the leadership of America, opportunities have been created for business, trade, and investment in Bangladesh and the whole world, which we want to utilize,” he said.

Participating in the luncheon, Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said that Gentry Beach has expressed interest in investing in the energy sector.

He said, “To study what investment opportunity facilities are available in Bangladesh for the US, they are mainly interested in minerals, exploration of gas.”

Advisor Mahfuz Alam told the meeting that a final decision will be made after detailed discussions between BIDA and Beach on investment-related issues.

Beach, whose company has invested in Africa and plans to invest in Pakistan, said more American investment would mean a rise in labour wages.
