A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on businessman Nazmi Nawroz, who took a loan of Tk234 crore against a chotpoti shop and two restaurants in Chattogram.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday.
According to court sources, ACC Deputy Director Afroza Haque Khan filed the petition, which was granted by the court after the hearing.
The petition said that a four-member inquiry team has been formed to investigate allegations against Saiful Alam, former chairman of First Security Islami Bank Limited and owner of S Alam Group, and others over granting a Tk234 crore loan against a chotpoti shop and two restaurants.
The investigation revealed that accused Nazmi Nawroz attempted to flee the country. If he manages to leave, it could disrupt the ongoing inquiry, making the travel ban essential.
Earlier, on 15 January, the ACC announced its decision to investigate allegations of irregularities in granting Tk234 crore in bank loans against a chotpoti shop and two restaurants owned by Nawroz Enterprise in Chattogram.
