Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said that Dhaka is reviewing a 37% tariff on imports from Bangladesh, announced by the United States as part of President Donald Trump’s "Reciprocal Tariffs" policy.

The National Board of Revenue was identifying options to rationalize tariffs expeditiously, which was necessary to address the matter, Shafiqul wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

“The United States is a close friend of Bangladesh and our largest export destination. We have been working with the US since the Trump administration took over to enhance trade and investment cooperation between our two countries. Our ongoing work with the US government is expected to help address the tariff issue,” he added.

A White House chart claims Bangladesh effectively imposes a 74% tariff on American goods. In response, a "discounted reciprocal tariff" of 37% will now be applied to Bangladeshi exports to the US.

The measure, part of Trump's "Liberation Day" trade initiative, introduces a baseline 10% tariff on all imports, with higher rates targeting countries accused of protectionism, currency manipulation or imposing non-tariff barriers against US exports.
