The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged people to wear masks in crowded areas in the wake of recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
This public advisory was issued on Friday, just a day before the countrymen were making preparations to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of Muslims.
Meanwhile, thousands of holidaymakers left Dhaka and other districts to reach their destinations to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones. Moreover, the people thronged cattle markets across the country to buy sacrificial animals for the festival.
“Given the rising COVID-19 infection rate, everyone is being requested to wear masks in crowded places. Particularly, elderly and ill individuals are advised to avoid such places,” the ministry said.
As of 6 June 2025, the country's total COVID fatalities have reached 29,500 and caseload 20,51,742, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
