Chief Election Commission (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the Election Commission (EC) is taking preparations to hold the 13th parliamentary election between February and April next year.

“Our election preparation is in full swing, with a timeline set between February and April next year,” he said while talking to reporters at his commission office in Agargaon area of Dhaka on Tuesday.

Responding to a query regarding his recent courtesy call on Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus, he said that the schedule for the upcoming general election was not discussed during the meeting.

However, the chief adviser, during the meeting, inquired about the EC’s progress on holding the next general election and in response, he was informed that the preparation is going on in full gear.

During the talks, the chief adviser expressed his optimism that the next general election would be held in a free, fair and credible manner under the management of the incumbent Election Commission, he said.

The schedule for the national will be announced at an appropriate time, he also told a questioner.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, while addressing a programme recently in Dhaka, urged the chief adviser to disclose what he discussed during his recent talks with the CEC.

It may be pointed out that Chief Adviser Prof Mohammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman held important talks in London on 13 June.

Later, both sides, in a joint statement, announced that the upcoming general election will be held a week before Ramadan to be observed in February next year.

But, in a dramatic development, the CEC said that the commission is taking all-out preparation, setting a timeline for the next general election to be held between February and April.
