Chattogram Customs Commissioner Zakir Hossain has been temporarily suspended for being absent from his workplace. The Ministry of Finance issued an official notice regarding the suspension on Tuesday.
According to the notification, Zakir Hossain, an officer under the National Board of Revenue (NBR), failed to attend work on 21 and 28 June.
This was despite a directive issued earlier by the NBR on 18 June 2025, which cancelled the weekly holiday for 28 June and instructed all concerned officers to be present at their respective posts.
The circular notes that his failure to comply with the directive disrupted critical government operations.
As a result, he has been suspended under Rule 39(1) of the Government Servants (Discipline) Rules, 2018. He has also been served a show-cause notice, requiring him to submit a written explanation regarding the allegations made against him.
