The law on online tender process for government projects will be published in a gazette notification next week, Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud said Wednesday, terming the move a “revolutionary feat” in ending corruption in project implementation works.
Online bidding by private and foreign entities for securing project works will end the culture of obtaining contracts through political influence and bribes, the adviser told reporters after a meeting of the ECNEC at the National Economic Council (NEC) office in Agargaon.
Only operational efficiency will be considered when awarding contracts, and those previously involved in irregularities or loan defaults will be disqualified at the very beginning of the tender process, Wahiduddin said.
The law in this regard will break the monopoly of “a few mafias” in the railway, fuel and other sectors.
Sensing less availability of bribes from potential bidders, very few officials are now showing an interest in becoming project directors, the adviser noted.
