Hatirjheel Police ADC assaulted, hospitalised

An Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Hatirjheel Police has been brutally beaten up amid a scuffle over a personal car.

ADC Mahfuzzaman, injured in the attack in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel on Wednesday, required 17 stitches and is now admitted to United Hospital.

Police said five people were arrested on Thursday in a raid conducted following the incident.

The identities of the arrestees have not been shared.

Mahafuzzaman works in the Diplomatic Security Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

DMP spokesperson Md Talebur Rahman said a case has been filed against seven people with Hatirjheel Police.

He said Mahafuzzaman was attacked in Hatirjheel while returning home in his private car after duty, when an argument broke out with the occupants of another vehicle over driving near Police Plaza.

Hatirjheel Police chief Golam Mortuza said the attackers were businessmen who had been drinking.

Police said the suspects came from a nearby bar, blocked Mahafuzzaman’s car, called in associates, and about 15 to 20 people then beat him.
