The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s economic reform efforts following a visit to Dhaka by its Asia and Pacific Department Director, Krishna Srinivasan.

In a statement issued after the visit, Srinivasan said the IMF delegation held “productive discussions” with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other key policymakers on the country’s economic and financial challenges.

Both sides agreed on the need to advance “ambitious policy and structural reforms” to ensure macroeconomic stability and achieve strong, inclusive and employment-oriented growth, the statement said.

The IMF also reiterated that it remains a “steadfast partner” of Bangladesh and stands ready to assist the country in its efforts to attain sustainable stability and growth.

According to the statement, discussions between the IMF and Bangladeshi authorities will continue during the upcoming IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings in April, where both sides are expected to determine the most effective path forward for advancing the Fund-supported programme.
