Fuel prices in Bangladesh have surged to historic highs, effective today, Sunday, April 19, 2026, due to global market instability following the Iran-Israel conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The price of diesel has hit an all-time record of BDT 115 per liter, while octane and petrol have risen to BDT 140 and BDT 135, respectively.
State Minister for Energy Anindya Islam Amit assured the public that there is sufficient stock—over 100,000 tons of diesel currently available—and instructed the BPC to increase daily supplies to manage the 30% surge in demand. However, the 15% hike in diesel prices is expected to significantly drive up costs in the transportation and agriculture sectors.
