Commuters in Dhaka continue to suffer due to lack of public transportation on streets as students’ protest enters day eight on Sunday (August 5).
Aside from a limited number of BRTC buses, no other buses of private Paribahans were seen plying. Dhaka dwellers are solely depending on rickshaw, CNG-driven auto-rickshaw, human hauler ‘Leguna’ and pickup trucks for transportation.
Many people were seen walking to workstation early in the morning under the circumstances. Commuters seen gathering in bus major bus stops of the city waiting for any kind of transportation. Working women are suffering the most due to the transport shortage.
Bus owners took off their buses after massive students protests broke out following death of two college students by a bus on Airport road on July 29. Students across the country are stating demonstration since then demanding road safety.
