As many as 6.79 lakh vehicles crossed the Padma and Jamuna bridges over the past 10 days surrounding Eid-ul-Azha, with toll collections reaching around Tk64 crore, according to bridge authorities.
The information was disclosed in a press release signed by Md Masud Rana Sikdar, deputy director (public relations) of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, on Sunday.
According to the Bridge Authority, 3,18,515 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge between 21 and 30 May, generating Tk36,11,95,900 in toll revenue. During the same period, 3,61,482 vehicles crossed the Jamuna Bridge, where toll collection amounted to Tk27,68,54,900.
In the press release, Bridges Division Secretary and Bangladesh Bridge Authority Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf said that vehicle movement on both the Padma and Jamuna bridges remained normal due to well-planned preparations and coordinated management aimed at ensuring safe and uninterrupted travel for homebound Eid passengers.
He added that although traffic pressure was higher this year compared to previous years, no major accidents occurred, and no significant traffic congestion was observed.
