A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Ongkurpur under Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Badu Sheikh, 40, a resident of Gobinadapur village and an accused in seven robbery cases.

Hasina Begum, officer-in-charge of Baliakandi Police Station, said on information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of police conducted a drive in the area under Jangal union, UNB reported.

When the team reached the spot, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight which left Badu dead on the spot.

Police also recovered some arms from the spot.
