Awami League six times lawmaker for Madaripur-1, Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury Liton has been appointed as the chief whip in Parliament.
President Abdul Hamid appointed him as the chief whip and six others as whips on Wednesday (Jan 30).
Chowdhury, who is the nephew of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasin served as a whip during the 9th Parliament.
The newly appointed whips for the 11th Parliament are: Atiur Rahman Atik, Iqbalur Rahim, Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, all three of whom had served as whips in the previous Parliament., while Joypurhat-2 lawmaker Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon, Khulna-1’s Panchanan Biswas and Chattogram-12’s Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury have been appointed as whips for the first time.
According to the 1972 ‘The Bangladesh (whip’s) order, President appoints one chief whip and six whips for the House.
The chief whips get minister’s privileges while the whips get state minister privileges
