Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Friday asked Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to identify all faulty and illegal structures in the northern part of the capital.
“I’ve asked Rajuk to inspect all structures in the northern part of the city and take necessary actions against illegal and faulty structures,” he told reporters while visiting the fire-hit FR Tower in the city’s Banani area on Friday evening.
The DNCC mayor also said time has come to take actions against illegal and faulty structures.
He mentioned the top four floors of the 22-storey FR (Faruque Rupaiyun) Tower were constructed illegally.
Atiqul further told media that the Fire Service and Civil Defence authorities have handed over the burned building, located at Kemal Ataturk Avenue in Banani, to police.
The decision about reopening of the fire-hit multi-storey building will be taken after being inspected by an expert team of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the mayor added.
At least 25 people were killed and over 70 others injured in the tragic fire incident on Thursday.
