Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Wednesday said that Electronic Voting Machines will be used in all future elections in Bangladesh.
“A legal framework has been prepared in this regard,” he said at a law and order meeting over Bogura-6 by-polls. The meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the Sadar Upazila.
CEC Huda said that EVMs will be used as much as possible in the local government elections.
Replying to a question, he said army deployment will not be necessary as there is a peaceful atmosphere in the electoral area.
“But army personnel will be present at polling booths as technical persons of EVMs,” he said. “They won’t discharge election duties but will take care if there’s any problem with EVMs.”
By-election to Bogura-6 constituency is scheduled for June 24.
The seat remained vacant as BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir chose not to take oath of office.
