Ataul Hakim, a former president of Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ), died at a hospital in the city on Tuesday. He was 69.
The senior journalist breathed his last around 9pm, said Hasan Ferdous, general secretary of CUJ.
He had been suffering from various old age complications.
Hakim, also a member of Chattogram Press Club, was the joint editor of Dainik Purbokone.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at 11am at Chattogram Press Club premises on Wednesday.
Later, his body will be taken to his village home at Sultanpur in Raozan upazila where he will be buried at his family graveyard following a second-namaz-janaza after Asr prayer.
Leaders of Chattogram Press Club and CUJ expressed deep shock at the death of the journalist.
Molla Jalal, president of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, and its Vice-President Riaz Haider Chowdhury expressed deep shock at the demise of Hakim.
