The Parliamentary Standing Committee on
Public Accounts today at its 12th meeting asked the Ministry of Housing and
Public Works to ensure transparency and accountability in terms of approving
tenders for government works.
Committee chairman M Rustam Ali Farazi presided over the meeting, said a
ministry press release.
The meeting was attended by committee members Abul Kalam Azad, M Afsarul
Amin, M Shahiduzzaman Sarker, RAM Ubaydul Muqtadir, Jahirul Haq Bhuiyan
Mohon, Ahsanul Islam Titu, Mustafa Lutfullah , Wasika Ayesha Khan and Md
Jahidur Rahman, among others.
The committee recommended the ministry for ensuring transparency and
accountability in tenders as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared ‘zero
tolerance’ against corruption.
The committee members urged the citizens to unite against corruption and
irregularities for a speedy development of the country, the release added.
The parliamentary watchdog elaborately discussed the seven reports of
objection regarding the audit reports of the 2011-12 fiscal of the Department
of Public Works under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The committee finalized decisions regarding the settlement of two
objection reports among the seven.
The Committee made a decision to take legal action according to the
rules against people involved in financial corruption.
The committee decided to collect compensation soon as possible and to be
more careful while executing contracts in future.
