Several hundred makeshift shops on both sides of Dhaka-Aricha highway were demolished on Monday in an eviction drive conducted by the Roads and Highways Division.

A team of RHD, led by executive magistrate Mahbubur Rahman Faruquee, started the drive around 11 am on the road stretching from Savar Bus Stand area to Genda Bus Stand area.

During the drive, makeshift shops including that of vegetable, fish and meat were demolished while work is underway to bulldoze an eight-story building which was built occupying the road.

Police from Dhaka and Savar took part in the eviction drive.
