People have been rushing to withdraw money from Automated Teller Machine (ATM) booths and banks for collecting money ahead of the 10-day general holiday announced by the government from March 26 to April 4 to stop coronavirus spread.
"I have been roaming around the bank and observing the situation since morning as people have crowded at the cash counters," said Deputy General Manager Anisur Rahman, also the branch manager of Pubali Bank, principal branch at Matijheel.
People have thronged at the cash counter of capital's Matijheel branch of Sonali Bank since Tuesday morning. The bank authorities have deployed police to tackle the situation at the bank.
Long queues of customers were seen in front of ATM booths in capitals' Matijheel along with Baridhara, Kamlapur and other places.
"We are withdrawing extra money in case we need it during the holiday," said Md Rasel Sheikh, an employee of a private company, who came to withdraw money at Bank Asia's ATM in capital's Dilkusha area.
