ADB President due Feb 27

Takehiko Nakao, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is expected to come to Bangladesh on February 27 on a two-day visit.

During his two-day stay, Takehiko will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, and other senior officials.

The incumbent ADB President will also visit selected ADB-assisted projects in Bangladesh in the power, education, urban infrastructure and rail transport sectors.

Notably, Bangladesh joined ADB in 1973, and in 1982 it became the first ADB member to host a field office.

Till date, more than $20 billion in ADB loans, grants, and technical assistance has been approved for the country. Approved non-sovereign loans, equity investments, and guarantees have totaled $985.28 million.

ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members—48 from the region.
