Bajus suspends two members for opening shop

Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (Bajus) has suspended two of its members because they opened their shops amid the Covid-19 pandemic, violating the directives issued by the organisation.

The samity also issued separate letters to them asking why they would not be suspended permanently, reads a press release signed by Bajus president Enamul Haque Dulan on Sunday.

Bajus had decided to keep all jewellery shops closed up to Eid-Ul-Fitr, but Kamal Jaman Mollah, managing director of Vashavi Jewellers at Gulshan in Dhaka and Babu Jagannath Gosh, managing director of Purabi Jewellers opened their shops.

Bajus has made the decision in a meeting of its executive committee held by teleconference.

Earlier, though Bajus issued warning letters to them, they did not take any measure to comply with the decision, Enamul Haque Dulan said.

Bajus has also issued separate warning letters to 30 members asking them to close their shops.
