Remittance inflow drops by 13pc in May

Remittance inflow dropped by 13.15 per cent in May compared to the same month last year.

Experts opine that inflow of remittance declined as the expatriate Bangladeshis are using informal channels while sending their income in the country.

Remittances stood at $1.88 billion in May compared to $2.17 billion in the same period last year, according to the latest central bank data released on Wednesday.

The country received $2.01 billion in remittances in April, the highest amount in a single month of the current fiscal year.
