BAJUS stresses VAT in trading gold ornaments


Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (BAJUS) has instructed gold traders to sell products adhering to VAT.

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, former President of BAJUS and Chairman of organisation’s Standing Committee on District Monitoring, made the instruction on Friday.

He was addressing a view exchange meeting between central leaders of BAJUS and those of Rajbari unit at district Shilpakala Academy.

Mentioning the initiatives of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, he said “BAJUS under leadership of President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has brought renaissance to the jewellery sector and shown the light of hope to the traders.”

He said the jewellery sector has got  back its past aristocracy under the BAJUS chief Anvir with central leaders and grassroots traders united under a single umbrella.

Dr Dilip was chief guest of the programme which was presided over by Rajbari unit president Joydev Karmakar.  

“BAJUS central leaders are striving to resolve administrative problems. They are suggesting to trade ornaments with hallmark. The updated price of gold is being published in the newspapers. The people buying ornaments at lower price are sure to be cheated,” said Dilip Kumar Roy.

BAJUS executive member and member secretary of Standing Committee on Law and Membership Md Ripnul Hasan and Standing Committee on District Monitoring member Pabitra Chandra Ghosh spoke as the special guests. 

Md Abul Hasem, general secretary of Rajbari unit of BAJUS, Sunil Biswas, president of Pansha Upazila Jewellery Owners Association, Ranjit Poddar, general secretary of Goalanda Jewellery Owners Association, among others, addressed the event.
