Country's tea production reached a record milestone of 14.74 million kg in September this year which is also higher than the production of any month in the past.

The tea production in September this year witnessed a growth of 17 percent compared to September last year.

The tea industry of the country has bounced back from the work abstention of the tea workers due to favourable weather, distribution of fertilizer at subsidized rate, regular monitoring by the Commerce Ministry and the Tea Board, and overall relentless efforts from the tea garden owners and workers, said a press release of the Bangladesh Tea Board.

The release said that Bangladesh witnessed its previous highest production of 14.58 million kgs of tea in October last year.

Bangladesh Tea Board Chairman Major General Md Ashraful Islam said although tea production was halted for some days in August this year due to the work abstention by the tea workers, but the usual operations resumed again soon with the increase of wages of the tea workers following directives from the Prime Minister.

Besides, necessary rainfall, distribution of fertilizer at right time at subsidized rate, providing incentives in tea export, regular monitoring of tea gardens, increase of wages of tea workers and ensuring their welfare have led to the record production of tea in September.

In the first nine months of the current Calendar year, the overall tea production at some 167 tea gardens and other small-scale tea gardens in the country reached 63.83 million kg.
