Largest solar-based power plant likely at Trishal

FT ONLINE

The government is likely to allow the country’s largest solar-based power plants having capacity to generate 200 megawatts of electricity at Trishal in Mymensingh.

The tariff of the power plant is also the lowest compared to any other solar- based power plant. Per unit tariff of the power plant is Tk 8.80 (0.11 US cents) with 18.50 percent plant factor.

The Consortium of China Energy Engineering Corporation and the Sunland Holdings Company Limited will implement the project.

The consortium agreed to produce electricity within 20-year period under the tariff structure. Earlier, the consortium proposed to supply per unit of electricity at Tk 13.60, but agreed to supply electricity at Tk 8.80 per unit after fruitful negotiation with the Power Division officials recently.

Power Division agreed to pay Tk 5,702 crore for purchasing electricity during 20-year period under ‘no electricity no tariff basis’.

The government for the last time agreed to allow 50MW solar-based power plant to Sminutenergy Singapore Holdings 2pte Limited in 2017. Per unit tariff of the power plant is Tk 10.64.

The government has so far allowed seven power plants having capacity to generate 487MW of electricity at different locations. But, progress of the solar-based power plants is insignificant, officials concerned said.

The government has targeted to generate 24,000MW of electricity by 2021. Of the electricity, 2000MW of power would come from renewable one.
