We have no secret agreement with the United States: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman clarified on Sunday, April 5, 2026, that Bangladesh has no secret agreements with the United States, addressing recent speculations following a courtesy meeting between the U.S. Ambassador and the Prime Minister.

Speaking at the Secretariat, the Minister emphasized that bilateral discussions focused strictly on development cooperation, humanitarian aid for Rohingyas, and U.S. assistance in ensuring Bangladesh's energy security.

Regarding the national fuel crisis, he noted that while international sanctions on Russia complicate direct oil imports, the government is actively exploring diverse and affordable sources to stabilize the domestic energy market without compromising diplomatic protocols.
