Libya killings: Two accused on four-day remand

A Dhaka Court on Wednesday sent two accused who had been arrested in connection with the killing of 26 Bangladeshis in Libya on a four-day remand in a case filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.

Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka, Tofazzal Hossain, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the police seeking seven-day remand for the accused.

The accused are--- Mahbubur Rahman and Shahidur Rahman. Both of them are FIR (first information report)-named accused.

Earlier, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case CID police inspector Mizanur Rahman produced them before the court and sought seven-day remand for them. After hearing, the court granted four-day remand for each of them.

On Tuesday night, the CID filed the case against 38 persons including Haji Kamal on charge of trafficking many Bangladeshis including 26 young men who were recently shot dead in Libya.

CID sub-inspector AHM Abul Fazal filed the case with the city's Paltan Police Station under the human trafficking law.

Some 42 migrants, including 38 Bangladeshis, were held captive in Mizdah of Libya while they were preparing to cross Libya for Europe. Later, the captors gunned down 26 of Bangladeshis and injured 11 others.
