DNCC launches anti-Aedes combing operation today

Dhaka North City Corporation ( DNCC) will start a combing operation to prevent dengue fever by controlling Aedes mosquito in 54 wards for 10 days with support from DG health from today (Saturday).

The combing operation will be conducted six days a week except for Friday from 10:00 am till 1:00 pm, a DNCC release said on Friday.

DNCC has divided each ward into 10 sectors for the operation. Each sector has again been divided into 10 sub-sectors.

Every day, the combing operation will be conducted in 10 sub-sectors of each sector of a ward by engaging four cleaners and one mosquito control worker of DNCC.

A total of 40 cleaners and 10 mosquito control workers will work in each ward.

They will examine Aedes mosquito larvae in houses, establishments and offices.

They will also see whether there is any water stored for three days or garbage that is favourable for Aedes breeding.

Besides, nine entomologists from DG Health Office, three entomologists from DNCC and other officials from health and waste management departments will be present during the operation.

The picture, address, mobile phone number and other information of those houses having larvae or favourable condition for Aedes breeding will be instantly stored in an app.

The data and information will be used for preparation of a database after end of the operation for detection of the Aedes breeding areas.

DNCC Chief Engineer Brig Gen Amirul Islam has developed the app.

Earlier, another combing operation was conducted from 16 May till Eid-ul- Fitr in 9463 sites of five wards --- 1, 6, 12, 18 and 32. Aedes larvae were found in 187 sites at that time.

Mobile courts to prevent dengue will be continued alongside the combing operation.

DNCC started the mobile court on May 10 and realised Tk 0.42 million in fine.
