Virtual hearings: 6,542 accused secured bail last week

Lower courts across the country have granted bail to 6,542 accused of different criminal cases during the five working days (May 31 to June 4) last week, sources at the Supreme Court said today.

Sixty-three among them are children, according to the sources.

The courts have disposed of 14,340 bail petitions in various criminal cases during the period.

Most of those who secured bail have been released from jail, the sources said.

With these, a total of 27,480 accused of criminal charges -- including 406 children -- have secured bail from the lower courts across the country in the last 15 working days.

The subordinate courts have disposed of total 47,626 petitions filed by the accused seeking bail in the cases against them.

The virtual court functions started on May 11 after a gap of 46 days in order to deal with the urgent cases.
