Women more afraid of COVID-19, says RU study


Though less infected than men, the women of the country are more afraid of COVID-19, according to a research conducted by the Psychology department of Rajshahi University.

The research titled "Covid-19: A threat to human existence" was conducted among 920 participants, aged between 18 to 65 and above, from Bangladesh and West Bengal to know the effect of coronavirus upon mental health.

The research shows that Bengali women are more afraid of getting infected by coronavirus than men although according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), 71 per cent of the corona infected patients are male and 29 per cent are women.

The research also shows that the Bangladeshis are significantly more afraid of coronavirus than their West Bengal counterparts.

The supervisor of the research Prof Dr Mujibul Haque Azad said, "Bengali women are less infected by the coronavirus as most of them are staying home "
