Govt-fixed price of potato not being followed

Traders are selling potato at Tk 45 to Tk 50 per kg at the retail markets instead of Tk 35 per kg fixed by the government on Tuesday.

Regarding the price hike, retailers are blaming wholesalers while wholesalers are blaming cold storage owners.

But actually, consumers are the worst sufferers in terms of price hike of potatoes.

They are very much angry because the price of potatoes at the retail market has not been reduced despite the declaration of the government.

After visiting a retail market at Mirpur-13 and a wholesale market at Mirpur-1 in the capital on Wednesday, it is observed that potatoes are being sold at Tk 45-Tk 50 instead of Tk 35. On the other hand, potatoes are being sold at Tk 36 to Tk 39 instead of Tk 30 set by the government at the wholesale market.

Visiting Mirpur-13 kitchen market, it was also observed that most of the shops have less supply of potatoes. The shopkeepers are selling potatoes there at Tk 45 to Tk 50 per kg.
