Nasrul for using pre-paid meters for electricity, gas


State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today laid emphasis on installing pre-paid meters to make effective contributions to the economical use of electricity and gas.

“Pre-paid meters would make an effective contribution to the economical use of electricity and gas,” he said, addressing a webinar titled “Prosperous Bangladesh, Uninterrupted Power and Energy Security Budget” organized by CRI albd web Team, a press release said.

“Besides, we need to take far-reaching plans for the use of domestic energy,” he added.

Mentioning that necessary efforts are being taken to strengthen State-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (?BAPEX), the state minister said incentives are continuing for power generation from renewable energy sources.

Renewable energy could be one of the main sources of power generation in the future, he said.

Wind power, ocean renewable energy, electricity from waste and solar power will make a huge contribution to the energy mix in future, he added.

With a view to making a prosperous Bangladesh in 2041, initiatives are underway to add Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (?SCADA), smart grid, smart prepaid meter, underground cable system, underground substation and GI transformer in power system and management, he said.

He also mentioned that the power and energy sector is preparing to face the fourth industrial revolution by integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) with ‘Big Data’.

Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain delivered the key note speech on the occasion.

Energy and Power Magazine (Bangladesh) Editor Mollah M Amzad Hossain , Forum for Energy Reporters Bangladesh (FERB) chairman Arun Karmakar, Finance and Planning Secretary of Awami League (AL) Waseka Ayesha Khan, MP, Energy Expert Prof M Tamim, Information and Research Secretary of AL Dr Selim Mahmood and Daily Observer Special Correspondent Shahnaz Begum also addressed the webinar, among others.
