President, PM greet members of Bangladesh Police on Police Week


President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted all the members of Bangladesh Police on the occasion of the Police Week-2022.

On the eve of the beginning of the week, they issued separate messages wishing a success of all the programmes.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said: “Bangladesh Police is a traditional organization of the country and this force has a glorious role in the great war of liberation.”

Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called for independence in the early hours of March 26, 1971 and later, responding to his call, members of the Bangladesh Police at Rajarbagh Police Lines formed the first armed resistance against the Pakistani Hanadar Bahani, he said.

About 1262 members of Bangladesh Police sacrificed their lives in the war of liberation, the head of the state added.

Not only in the great liberation war, but also in the interest of the country and amid various crises moment, the police members did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives, he said, adding that at least 106 police personnel died in the ongoing Covid-19 while serving for the country and its people.

The president recalled with deep respect the heroic members of the police who sacrificed their lives for maintaining law and order at different times including the great liberation war.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh Police has been working tirelessly to maintain internal peace, curb crime and establish rule of law. 

The role of police in combating militancy and terrorism, eradication of drugs and smuggling has further enhanced the image of Bangladesh in the world arena, the premier added.

Besides, the brave members of the Bangladesh Police have made significant commendable contributions through their active participation in UN peacekeeping operations, she said.

After the formation of the Awami League government, the manpower of Bangladesh Police has been increased in phases, she said, adding that the government is working to promote and enhance the ranks of the police in order to achieve professional excellence.

She said the government has taken effective steps to resolve the issue of promotion of police officers by creating new posts in Bangladesh Police. 

At the same time, the number of Grade-1 and Grade-2 posts has been increased, she continued. 

“Besides, we formed an industrial police unit in 2010 for the industrial area and a tourist police unit in 2013 for the safety of tourists,” she said.

“I hope that the members of Bangladesh Police will carry out their duties with efficiency, professionalism and impartiality while upholding human values and will act as a supporting force in building the 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Father of Nation,” she said.

Both the president and the premier wished the overall success of all the programs of 'Police Week-2022'.
