NGOs role important to make govt's uplift prgms successful: Liton


Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said the role of non-governmental development organisations as very important towards successful implementation of the government's uplift programmes in terms of taking the nation forward.
 
Liton, who is also Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League, mentioned
that the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing various time-fitting programmes for improving living and livelihood conditions of the grassroots population particularly for the low-income and marginalized ones.

He made the observation while addressing a view-sharing meeting with executives and delegations of various NGOs working here at City Bhaban conference hall on Thursday as the chief guest.

The mayor will contest in the upcoming mayoral election as he was nominated by his party high command for the election. Ahead of the election scheduled to be held on June 21, he has been holding a series of view-sharing meetings with people of various professions and communities for the last couple of weeks.

"There are many curses including violence against women, child marriage,
child labour, dowry, gender disparity and drug-addiction in the society," he said and opined that a concerted effort of all government and non-government organization become indispensable to free the society from the curses.

Khairuzzaman Liton said eradication of child marriage, violence against women, equal rights to education, training, science and technology have become an urgent need.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already declared that the rural areas will be transformed into urban like areas through reaching the modern facilities there, he said, adding: "At present, the country is on the road towards development."

He further said Bangladesh will be elevated to a new height when it achieves
the SDGs-2030 and build Smart Bangladesh-2041. He urged the NGOs to
supplement the government efforts collectively.
