Heavy traffic jam in capital due to rallies of BNP and AL

The people in the capital on Wednesday faced an unusual traffic jam due to the rallies of both BNP and Awami League in the distance of 1.5 km in Paltan area.

BNP started their rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office at 2:00pm today announcing their one-point movement to dethrone the incumbent government. The leaders and activists started to gather there to participate in the rally from morning.

On the other hand, ruling AL summoned peace rally on the same day at the south gate area of the national Baitul Mukarram mosque in Paltan.

The activists of both parties braved rain as they poured into their respective meeting venues in processions carrying banners, placards and shouting slogans. Many were seen coming on packed buses and pick-up vans.

Due to the rally of the two parties, traffic on the roads is relatively less than the usual day. Facing heavy traffic jam, many buses turn back before reaching their destination.

Adequate number of police was seen at various government offices and important points. Police were also seen setting up check posts at various entrances of the capital.
