US delegation visits Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar


A US delegation led by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas reached Cox’s Bazar to observe the situation at Rohingya camp.

A flight of US Bangla Airlines carrying the delegation including Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya arrived in Cox’s Bazar airport at 9am on Wednesday.

Officials of UNHCR, IMO and RRRC, district administration and law enforcement agencies welcomed the delegation members.

The ten member delegation also Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Asia Anjali Kaur.

During visiting the camp, the delegation team will survey Rohingya refugee camps one, nine, 11, 18, one east and specialised hospital in Ukhiya.

They will also survey activities of international aid agencies and exchange views with officials of UNHCR and RRRC. Later the delegation will leave the place in the evening.

The delegation team arrived in Dhaka Tuesday evening, three days after visiting Delhi, India.
