ADB executive director visits Jashore’s waste management, treatment site

Executive Director of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Sameer Kumar Khare visited a waste management and treatment plant in Jashore Sadar Upazila's Jhumjhumpur area on Thursday.

He visited the Integrated Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility (IL&RRF) operated by Skate Waste, a waste management company around 11 am.

He was accompanied by a delegation of senior officials of the ADB, representatives of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and senior officials of Jashore Municipality.

Md. Nahid Alam, chairman of Skate Limited and Managing Director Mr. Md. Masud Hossain Jahangir highlighted the significance of this initiative and shared their experience in waste management with the ADB delegation.

The ADB executive director lauded Skate Waste's innovative approach and initiative to tackle the challenges of waste management.

Sameer Kumar Khare emphasised the public-private collaboration in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Giving importance to the use of modern technology, he said waste management is a great threat to human health and the environment.

"If we can reduce the direct human involvement here and connect modern technologies like artificial intelligence, we can quickly develop an efficient waste management business and role model," he added.
