PM phones UAE President, speaking bilateral issues


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made a phone call to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), around 08:30 pm on Monday.

"The two leaders exchanged greetings and spoke to each other on various issues of bilateral relations for 15 minutes," said a press release of the Prime Minister's press wing.

Sheikh Hasina, on behalf of the Bangladeshi people, the government, the family members of Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Sufiul Anam and of her own expressed deep gratitude to the UAE President as well as the UAE intelligence units for their extraordinary efforts and successful negotiation with the heartening outcome of the release of Anam from the kidnappers in Yemen.

Sheikh Hasina commended that the negotiation of the successful release of Aman from the captivity of Al-Qaeda demonstrates the ability of the UAE as a peace-building and responsible nation under his visionary leadership.

She hoped that the UAE would continue to perform such responsibility towards peace and stability in the region in the coming days.

This kind of cooperation would further strengthen existing strong bilateral ties and shared commitment between the two peace-loving countries, she said.

She also thanked the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

Both the leaders recalled that the founding fathers of both the countries, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, established the bilateral relationship between the two brotherly countries in March 1974.

Sheikh Hasina thanked the UAE President for being available for the phone call.

She expressed her deep condolences on the untimely demise of his brother, His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Premier reiterated that Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in March next year. To that end, she expressed her willingness to take commemorative activities jointly to celebrate the milestone occasion.

She invited the President of the UAE to pay a visit to Bangladesh to mark the event as grandeur as ever before.

Sheikh Hasina congratulated the UAE President, the UAE Government, a0nd the people on the UAE for hosting the COP-28.

She reiterated Bangladesh's support to the UAE for the COP-28.

She also expressed her confidence in the UAE's Presidency and stewardship in holding this critical global event with the desired outcome.

Sheikh Hasina lauded the UAE President's role for giving a greenery shape to his country and said that the UAE would lead in finding a successful solution to the issues of global warming and climate change.

She thanked the UAE for hosting peace-loving Bangladeshi workers who abide by the law there.

During the talks, the UAE President appreciated Bangladesh's workers' contribution to the development of their economy and society.

Sheikh Hasina conveyed her best wishes to the UAE President and his family members and continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of the UAE.
