Russia congratulates Bangladesh on Independence Day


Russia has congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of Independence Day and National Day celebrated on Tuesday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin sent the congratulatory letter to President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Ambassador Alexander Mantytskiy in Dhaka also issued a statement on the occasion.

Putin in his letter said that Russian-Bangladesh relations have traditionally developed in the spirit of friendship.

"I am convinced that through mutual efforts, we will contribute to their further development for the benefit of our peoples and in the interests of stronger regional security and stability," he wrote.

"I wish you sound health and every success, and to all citizens of Bangladesh – peace and prosperity."

In the letter, the Russian prime minister observed with satisfaction that the Russia-Bangladesh relations have been developing in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect and that trade and economic cooperation is gradually advancing, and perspective joint projects are being realised.

"I am convinced that active work between the governments will contribute to strengthening the entire gamut of practical interaction. This fully corresponds with the interests of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of Bangladesh," said the Russian prime minister.

He wished Sheikh Hasina, sound health, well-being and new achievements in her responsible work and to the friendly Bangladeshi people - happiness and prosperity.

Ambassador Mantytskiy extended his warmest congratulations and best wishes to the friendly Bangladeshi people.

"The historical bonds between Russia and Bangladesh go back to those years of the early 1970's. The then Soviet Union by word and deed supported the Bengali nation in their aspirations for independence and in further quest to achieve international recognition and secure freedom gained after the Liberation war," he recalled.

"Bangladesh post-independence journey is a remarkable example of resilience, nation-building and progress.

"The country has become the role model for many developing states in combating poverty and climate change, empowering women and spreading education.

"Industrialisation is another matter of pride in the economic sphere, with the Bangladeshi RMG sector being well-known globally for its competitive advantages," he said.

"In continuation of our mutually beneficial comprehensive cooperation Russia stands beside Bangladesh as its proud development partner on the way to building 'Sonar Bangla' - the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the goal of his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"May the spirit of independence continue to guide and inspire us all towards a future marked by peace, prosperity, and enduring friendship," read the statement.
