PM likely to visit Brazil in July


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to visit Brazil in July as the visiting Brazilian foreign minister has invited her to Brasilia on behalf of the South American country’s president, foreign ministry officials said Sunday.

There is an invitation from Brazilian President Lula da Silva to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and in response, there might be a visit by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Brazil in July, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met foreign ministry officials at the state guest house Jamuna on Sunday afternoon, when he forwarded the invitation.

In 2023, President Lula and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in South Africa.

The Brazilian foreign minister said that at that time Lula hoped to have Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as his guest in Brazil soon.

Brazilian foreign minister said that during the two leaders’ meeting in South Africa, both developed very strong personal ties.

Praising Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her efforts in improving the quality of lives for Bangladeshis, the Brazilian foreign minister said they have similar position in many aspects such as combatting hunger.  

In many cases, Brazil and Bangladesh have similar agendas and these allow for further developing bilateral relations, he said.  

Brazil is keen to continue deepening relations with Bangladesh, in favour of the development of both countries, the promotion of South-South cooperation, and the fight against poverty, hunger, and climate crisis, the Brazilian foreign minister said.
