Today COAST Foundation started the anticipatory action in response to Cyclone Remal in Patuakhali district.

Supported by Start Fund Bangladesh, COAST has been implementing the project titled “Organizational Readiness and Disaster Risk Financing for Early Action and Response to Humanitarian Crisis” in Patuakhali.

COAST collected the database of 7,900 vulnerable households in Patuakhali last year. Early actions protocol has been activated by forecast-derived anticipated impact from Start Fund Bangladesh.

COAST planned to support 300 vulnerable households in the unions of Char Kajal and Galachipa under the sub-district, Galachipa of Patuakhali.

Each household received BDT 5000 (Five thousand) cash today before the landfall of cyclone Remal.

COAST distributed this Multi-Purpose Cash Grant (MPCG), so the vulnerable family can purchase food, and emergency items as necessary during the emergency. This fund anticipates reducing their suffering.

Two teams worked in the field to distribute the cash before the cyclone hits the coast today. Basically, these families can buy their daily necessities including food before the disaster.

Rashida Begum, Assistant Director and Md. Eunus, senior coordinator from COAST Foundation coordinated these works in two unions.

Lipi Begum from Galachipa Union received this assistance and said that this cash would help her family during the calamity.

Chairman of Galachipa Sadar Union Md. Jahangir Hossain Tutu was present during the cash distribution. He thanked COAST and Stat Fund Bangladesh for this cooperation.

He said, poor people are in more vulnerable during disaster specially cyclone. These families can not earn when any disaster start and it’s stopped their income. This cash grant will play a supporting role for the supporting families.
