Residents asked to move to safer places in parts of Khagrachari amid landslide risks

Amid continued heavy rainfall the Khagrachhari district administration has launched an awareness campaign to prevent casualties and damage from potential landslides in the hilly region.

Authorities started campaign using loudspeakers on Tuesday afternoon and put up posters in vulnerable areas urging residents to move to safer locations.

They continued the awareness campaign till night at Sabuj Bagh, Cumilla Tila, Shalban Mohammadpur, and Shalban Shapla Mor areas— all of which have been identified as landslide-prone zones.

Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sujan Chandra Roy, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Akhil Shikari, and local headman U Kyaching Chowdhury were present during the campaign.

The move came after the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in four divisions over a 72-hour period starting 10am Wednesday (May 28), due to active monsoon.
