BNP can get permission for Suhrawardy rally on conditions: Home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Thursday said the BNP can get permission to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on few conditions on December 10.

“We informed the DMP commissioner that they (BNP) will get permission for holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan,” he told a function at Sadar Ghat in the capital in the afternoon.

Kamal added: “The BNP is a political party. They have the right to do politics. If the BNP does constructive politics in a systematic way, we will have nothing to say here. But I think, if the BNP violates political courtesy or tries to do any other things, then we will have an objection.”

The minister said the government did not forbid them to hold political programmes.

“The BNP is holding programmes across the country. We didn’t forbid them for Dhaka either. We only talk about our concerns,” he said.

He said the BNP is talking about gathering 25 or 30 lakh people. “Where will the people stay? It seems the BNP will immobilise the entire Dhaka city,” he said.

Kamal said they had asked the BNP to hold their programme in a large venue and they demanded a rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan.

“We have informed the DMP commissioner that they will get permission. Our honourable prime minister also has the same directive,” he said.
