Jamaat rally shifts location after police barricade at Motijheel

Despite not receiving permission to hold a mass gathering at Motijheel's Shapla Chattar, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists converged in the area on Saturday morning.

Around 9:00 am, a significant number of Jamaat members gathered at the southern end of Shapla Chattar. Police approached and requested them to move a nearby alley, to which Jamaat complied peacefully.

Subsequently, barricades were erected on the main road by police, blocking the rally from proceeding to Shapla Chattar. By 11:00 am, a heavy police presence contained the situation.

Jamaat leader Mobarak Hossain and two others met the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Joint Commissioner Liton Kumar Saha at the Arambagh Al-Helal Police Box.

Mobarak stated police had asked them to relocate, and assured they intended no disruption and would continue the gathering at Arambagh.

RAB-3 Director Colonel Arif Mahiuddin emphasized their commitment to maintaining peace, while remaining vigilant based on intelligence of potential unrest.

He stated RAB's top priority was preventing unauthorized disturbances around Shapla Chattar and ensuring the area's safety.

So far, no confrontation has occurred between Jamaat supporters and security forces. While the rally's shift from Motijheel is a success for authorities, continued vigilance is needed to maintain law and order situation.
