SC orders restoration of Jamaat's registration

The Appellate Division has ordered the reinstatement of Jamaat-e-Islami’s cancelled registration as a political party. The Election Commission has been directed to implement the order without delay.

However, the court did not issue any directive regarding the party’s electoral symbol, the scale. The matter of the symbol has been left to the discretion of the Election Commission.

The verdict was delivered on Sunday morning (1 June) by a four-member Appellate Bench headed by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed. The Supreme Court overturned a previous High Court ruling in this regard.

Representing Jamaat in court were Barrister Ehsan Abdullah Siddique, Barrister Imran Abdullah Siddique, Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir, Barrister Najib Momen, and Barrister Mir Ahmed Bin Quasem.
