In Tangail-5 constituencyFarhad continues election campaign despite party order
BNP has announced its nominations for 8 seats in Tangail in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. Out of these 8 seats, Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency is the most important. Because this constituency is the heart of the district. Every morning, people of different classes and professions from the remaining 7 seats come to Tangail city for work or for various needs.
BNP Central Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has been nominated for Tangail-5 constituency. People from all walks of life in Tangail have congratulated BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for getting Tuku's nomination. The young generation is also happy with Tuku's nomination. The helpless people raised their hands and prayed for the recovery of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
However, District BNP General Secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal, who is seeking nomination from Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency, is busy with various propaganda after not getting the nomination. It is learnt that he has taken a stand against the candidate of Paddy Sheesh announced by Tarique Rahman.
Farhad has been accused of holding secret meetings with Jamaat-e-Islami, receiving financial benefits from fugitive top leaders of the Awami League, and gaining money by spreading influence by tarnishing the party's name.
District BNP General Secretary Farhad Iqbal is holding meetings and public relations to get the party's nomination in the upcoming national elections. BNP's central publicity secretary and Chhatra Dal-Yubdal central president, renegade and jailed victim Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has received the party's nomination in this constituency. Along with extensive public relations, he is going to the people with the 31-point state reform announced by BNP. Apart from these two, former district Chhatra Dal president Khandaker Ahmedul Haque Shatil and several other BNP nomination hopefuls have worked in the field.
In this situation, on December 4, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the name of Sultan Salahuddin Tuku as the BNP's nominated candidate for Tangail-5 constituency. Since then, leaders and activists have been conducting extensive campaigning and public mobilization on behalf of Tuku in the field for the symbol of rice sheaf. BNP leaders and activists are going to the people day and night to make Tuku win in Tangail Sadar constituency. Starting from backyard meetings, Tuku and his supporters are attending meetings and rallies and various social and religious events.
Meanwhile, Farhad Iqbal, who was deprived of the party's nomination, has taken a stand against the party. There have been allegations that he is severely tarnishing the party's image by making arrogant statements in meetings. On December 5, Farhad Iqbal organized a prayer meeting to pray for the health of Begum Khaleda Zia. Leaders and activists attended the city's Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park. Leaders and activists were told about the prayer meeting to pray for the health of Begum Zia and took out a procession with black cloths on their faces demanding a change in the nomination.
This kind of cheating has caused extreme anger among the party's general leaders and activists. After the prayer mahfil, Farhad Iqbal told the media that the nomination announcement was not correct during Begum Khaleda Zia's illness. This has hurt the leaders and activists. He criticized the party's central leaders, demanding that Tuku's nomination be canceled and he be nominated.
Meanwhile, the people of Tangail have demanded justice for Farhad's abusive language. Not only that, they have said that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has always clearly told the leaders and activists that whoever is given the candidate; they have to work for him. If anyone opposes the one who has been given the symbol of a sheaf of rice, the sheaf of rice will be opposed. But Farhad Iqbal and his supporters are not willing to obey this order of Tarique Rahman in any way. As a result, the question has arisen that Farhad Iqbal has forgotten the interests of the party and joined hands with the conspirators.
According to sources, the Tangail Sadar seat was in the hands of the Awami League for the last 15 and a half years. During the Awami League's rule, Farhad Iqbal was quite good at joining hands with the party's leaders and activists. In return, it has been alleged that Farhad is currently opposing the BNP's nominated candidate with the paddy sheaf symbol, Tuku, by patronizing and supporting the fugitive Awami League leaders and activists.
According to reliable sources, the day after Tuku's nomination was announced, Farhad Iqbal held a secret meeting with Ahsan Habib Masud, the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Sadar constituency. Sources said that the meeting was held on the second floor of Farhad Iqbal's house in the Bagan Bari area of the city that morning. In the meeting, Farhad Iqbal was asked by Jamaat to contest the election as an independent candidate. When this news spread, there was extreme anger among BNP leaders. However, Farhad Iqbal denied the incident and claimed it was a rumor to many.
Several BNP leaders and activists have alleged that Tangail-5 (Sadar) is an important seat. On the one hand, the common people are very happy that a heavyweight candidate like Sultan Salahuddin is in this seat, while the leaders and activists are also happy. Because there is no alternative to Tuku for the development of Tangail. However, the top terrorists of the Awami League who were expelled from Tangail are unhappy. This small section of the Awami League has earned hundreds of crores of taka in the last 15 and a half years of Hasina. When Hasina fell in the student-public movement, these terrorists, identified, fled the country. These terrorists have only one fear, and that is, if Sultan Salahuddin Tuku becomes an MP, they will never be able to establish a reign of terror in Tangail. Besides, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku can be a barrier to all kinds of misdeeds including extortion, terrorists, and juvenile gangs. Moreover, BNP will get the seat back very easily.
A reliable source said that for these reasons, Farhad Iqbal was the preferred candidate of the terrorists identified by the Awami League. Because Farhad Iqbal is a relatively safe candidate for them. And for that reason, this faction of the Awami League has been maintaining close contact with Farhad Iqbal since the beginning. The news that they are cooperating with large sums of money has been discussed for a long time. These Awami League friends are still active in Tangail.
Meanwhile, after Sultan Salahuddin Tuku was nominated, many leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates, who support the other candidate, Advocate Farhad Iqbal, have started campaigning for Tuku.
Tuku's supporters hope that in the next few days, leaders and activists of all levels of the party will forget their differences and participate in the campaign for Sultan Salahuddin Tuku in unity.
